factory roof racks AND rain gutter rack?

I have heard that it is better to carry heavy loads on a rain gutter mounted rack, and with a few of the trail trips I am thinking about for this summer, it would be good to have a lot of the equipment (spare, tools, etc) on the roof in a basket. My question is for those of us with factory racks, does anyone have any pictures of their jeeps with an aftermarket rain gutter mounted rack as well as the factory rack? or does everyone take the factory rack off?

get a rack from yakima.they make some good stuff. You will need control towers, which is their name for the gutter system. I slides into the factory rails on the xj. If you go to www.yakima.com and select fit my car, they'll walk you through it.

It can't be a "gutter system" and use the factory rails.

A Yakima gutter mount set-up will easily fit over a factory rack; no need to remove anything.

I've since removed the factory crossbars though.

I've got the Olympic Top Hat rack and it just barely cleared the factory crossbars, so I slid them down a little so they'd fit between the basket bottom bars. Been like that for over a year now with no problems.

ill have a pic up HOPEFULLY by sunday with a RWfabworks rack

Here it is mounted. I made a few brackets before, but the first set came out kind of ugly, the second set didn't work too well, now im waiting on RWFab to come up with something. For now, i needed it mounted ASAP, and just bolted to the roof bars.
