Extended Brake Lines

http://www.fivezerofive.com/main/index.php?itemid=1047

Yesterday I went to go bleed my front brakes on the Jeep. I went to go loosen the bleeder screw on the passengers side front caliper and bumped the braided steel brake line with the handle of the ratchet. To my surprise the brake line broke clean off! Definitely not good, but it broke at the perfect time. I'd of hated to have it break on me when I was driving or out in the middle of no where.

Being that the Jeep is lifted, it had Rubicon Express braided steel brake lines up front that were longer then the stock brake lines. Since it was Sunday, Desert Rat and 4 Wheel Parts were both closed, so I headed to NAPA to try and find some replacement lines that would still be longer then stock.

The Rubicon Express lines were 22" long.

The replacement lines that I picked up from NAPA were 25" long.

Here is a little comparison shot of both lines hanging off of my winch fairlead.

As you can see the NAPA rubber lines have a metal bracket in the center. This is just bent around the line and you can bend it off or cut it off (don't damage the lines!)

The part number for the NAPA 25" long brake hoses that fit on my 99 Jeep Cherokee was 380534.

Part #

The price for two lines (I opted to replace both front lines and use the one that wasn't broken as a spare) was just around $60.

Hopefully this can help someone out that is looking for longer brake lines locally (or in my case, locally on a Sunday when everything else was closed.)

Not sure offhand. I've seen a list before with some extended lines, but I can't seem to find the link today.

The guy at the parts counter was kind enough to browse through their brake hose book for a while until he found these for me.

What a shock, another broken SSB brakeline!

To remove the brackets from the Chevy 1500 brakelines, I used a vise to hold the bracket secure and then took a vise grips to grab the part of the bracket that is wrapped around the brakeline. I used the vise grips to peel back the bracket from the brakeline. Took no more than 15 seconds per line and zero damage was incurred on the brakeline.

I'm going to have to figure a way to get the metal part off mine with them installed. I bled all 4 corners the day after i installed them and now it brakes better then it did when i bought it. the stainless lines failed because i over extended one before i had my bump stops set up properly.
