I didn't notice much difference at all with the weight after this modification. The roof part of course was the heaviest, but still wasn't too bad. As always I consider the "cost" vs benefits when doing these modifications, one of the costs being added weight of course. And that was one slight advantage of going with 1.5" vs 1.75" tube, (giving up some strength there). Also the .095 wall I used for some parts is considerably lighter than .120 wall. I know I added much more weight doing the stiffeners and rocker replacements than with this project.

Hi Erik,

My name is Peter and i live in the Netherlands

I must say that you have a super looking XJ. I got your book a couple months ago and find it super. There is much in what I had heard, but now there are photos with it to be really clear.
I have a ZJ 4.0 for everyday use, I just bought an XJ for offroad driving. I have a couple of springs from a v8 ZJ and 2inch Terra Flex blocks, and i have extra springs for rear with extra bloks. With some grinding in the venders I hope to fit 33x11, 5x15 Simex jungle trekkers.

If that is done I make a cage to your example. The area on the roof gives good head space in the car GREAT!!!

PS Iam sorry for my writing

For fotos

If it has a wood deck, you have to run some cross-braces underneath to reduce the amount of flex it creates. There is quite a bit of torque created when you use it!

It also gives you a portable mount that you can take anywhere!

Eric, I know this is unrelated, but since you have the 1541h Yukon alloy shafts in your 8.25, do you carry spares for the rear while on trails?

I carry a stock shaft as a spare but haven't had to use it yet.
