[checking orbitz for cheap tickets from NV to TX]

Excellent work as always Eric. That's very much like what I'd like to eventually have on my XJ.

i think these blocks of wood might pose a weak point in your cage design...

Looks awesome. With you posting all these writeups, I think lots of people are going to start copying your rig lol.

Never under estimate the power of Elmer's wood glue! Though I think I would use some 2x2 to try and save weight.

By the way Eric, how close is the B-pillar bar to your head when you are sitting normally in the driver's seat. The way I sit in mine, my head is about even with the B-pillar, so any sort of tubing there would either post a huge danger to my noggin, or I'd have to move it back to block what little space there is to get into the back seat. Can we get a quick side view when you get a chance? Gonna pad anything in there for a bit more protection?

Don't you guys know? The wood blocks are custom cage extenders, like spacers. They come in 2 x 4 size but bigger is better so I went with 3 x 4.

My B-pillar bars are slightly behind the headrest. When I was building it I sat in the seat and my head is not close to any of the bars. The only way I could hit them is if I come out of the seat. There is more chance of me bumping my head against the XJ's stock B-pillar than anything else.

so it's like a body lift . . . for your cage?

BRILLIANT!

Excellent build, Eric. As always, your threads are rife with detail and an inspiration. Definitely looks like you'll have ample strength and protection when done. Have you noticed any disadvantages due to the increased weight?

The only thing I see as a problem is shell expenditure when you mount the .50 cal on the roof. The hot brass might mar your paint job.
