I know you are going to do something about that pillar space because well, your Eric. Even if you have the doors off all the time the gap is going to get to you.

Let me think about that.

Very nice work Eric! I'm just learning how to weld, well getting better with practice, and this is definitely making me want to practice on a full roll cage! lol Anyways, great work!
Are you thinking about doing something like that for the rear? Making it integrated to some sort?

Eric, your Jeep looks fantastic!
The gap bnetween a-pillar tube and doors is the same thing I'm facing. I saved my front fenders and thought about cutting a portion off of them to fill the gap. Should look nice and clean.
Tube doors for the summer huh? Let's see if you or me has them ready first?
..I've never liked the idea of running copletely doorless, I'm too scrared of something hitting me or my passengers if I roll the Jeep.

Good point. Plus, Eric has mentioned a few times hitting rocks and stuff on the pillars and possibly ruining the stock hinges, so I would think tube doors (and even a piece to fill the gap between the cage and the front door) would keep the hinges front bending too bad.

As for the gap and hinges and doors. What about (i know you love hearing THAT!) using either tube, or flat stock or both, to fill the gap, and using the stock hing locations on teh doors, to bracket the hinges toward the outside edge of the door? Then you have the bar/tube filler that should definetly be strong enough to support a sleeve for the door pin. Yes, it makes the hinge point become external (TJ/YJ style), but it gives you 1) a way to protect the A-pillar, 2) a filler for the gap when full doors are on, and 3) a MUCH easier method for removing/installing either set of doors.
Hopefully that description made sense... I can see all this in detail in my head, just having trouble describing it.

You're the MAN! Why have I never thought of that? It actually makes a lot of sense, at least for the tube doors. And I don't think it should be too hard to figure out a way to mount the stock doors somehow like that.
Especially with the older style door hinges taking doors off and putting them back is a PITA.

Thanks Timo... I wanted to do something like this on mine, but dont really have any justification for it.
My idea (for OEM doors) on the door hinge side was to use the stock bolt locations. Making hinge brackets that follow the door frame to the skin, follow the skin to the edge, then go just around the edge of the door.
Once that is done just locate the hinge sleeves (body side) onto the new pillar structure.
Tube doors could then be built off the now existing lower hinge sleeves.
EDIT: I didnt know people in Finland said "PITA"... I had to explain what it meant to my wife a few months back...

Well, we don't But one ends up learning things by browsing through multiple forums that are in English
I gotta look into that door hinge solution, it really sounds like a good idea. Heck, after the first time I took off my doors I haven't been able to line them back up Should be much easier with external hinges.

I think I know what you are describing. I think I'll let Timo prototype that one and then maybe I'll follow suit.

this is one of the nicest, cleanest xj's ive seen, "Project Tarantula" use to be a inspiration to me and my xj, but damn eric your jeep is just simply passed that stage. You have done a lot more things that have caught my attention, simple things like limit straps on the stock uca brackets, hood vents, ect. very good work. hope my xj will look as clean as yours one day.
