Engine bay exo
I thought I would share progress of my engine bay exo cage. I already have an internal cage, and have managed to destroy both fenders and the corners of my grill, so time came for better clearance and less body panels to dent...
My friend who owns a company called Twizted Engineering did all the fabrication (a very talented guy). This was modeled from an XJ I saw on xjdb. Phase 1: Removing fenders, trim front corners, plate and paint: ![]() ![]() ![]() Phase 2: Upper loop and light mounting: ![]() ![]() ![]() Phase 3: Main tubing work and grill trimming: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There is noticeable clearance gain to get the tires onto rocks. We still need to add some triangulation to the sides and mount some LED turn signals, before painting. More pictures to come when I get that far.

That is sick... I haven't seen it done that well before. Great Fabbing! Not my personal style but extremely functional in the rocks. Where in Colorado are you at?

Pretty nice work going on there bud. Looks like your fab man is a true artist. I think you're going to like the end result. Props!

ausi02 - I am in Westminster, right between Denver and Boulder.
89SAFARIXJ - It gets driven to the store and back etc. but never any more than a few miles. I did speak with a local officer about it and he said as long as the lights are not blinding he didn't think I would get ticketed. bmyohn - You can just about get your fingers over the front hoop to get the hood open. That's good enough for me :-)

Is that it? I figured there would be more tube work around the fenders to close them in a little bit more. Don't get me wrong I like it but I' thought this would be more like tube fenders for TJ's

We are going to put a couple of tubes from the vertical near the door to the top tube and then from the top tube to the front to add support and it will help close it in a little. I don't want the tubes to stick out further than they do currently to keep it narrow in the front.

I've been looking forward to seeing this. Very nice work! Eliminating those front corners is a great idea - I am constantly hitting mine.
Is that 1.75" tube?

Yes Eric, 1.75" x 0.120" wall tube. It matches the rear tube bumper I have (also fabricated by Darren at Twizted). I am hoping to get it finished up tomorrow afternoon so will post the side pictures then.
