electrical problems

my 98 xj with 190k has an electrical problem... somewhere between the main conrtol switch for the windows and the passenger rear window.. anyone else have any problems like this? it will roll down but not up..? i also seem to get a small shock every time i get out... one other thing ive noticed too is that my volt gage will bury in the 19 area from time to time for no reason.. my mechanic said its because of my optima battery and that it wont hurt anything.. any thoughts? Please!!!!

Almost all window issues like those you are having are due to broken wires in the harness going to the drivers door.

The static shock is nothing to worry with....

19v on your volt gauge is not because of your battery....sounds like you need a new mechanic....

Most likely is due to a bad ground on the cluster connection. Do a search for "no bus" and follow that fix

If the window will roll down and not up it is a switch. The wires are OK. Take your switch out and disconnect and reconnect the plug on the window switch. Sometimes this works. Also on 98s there is an issue with the lockout switch. Generally it takes out both functions though, but it could be it is the culprit too. To fix this, just wire around it.
