Driver's window only window that won't work.

I've done some searching on the site but can't find my exact problem. The window will only move up or down with the switch about 1/4 inch from the top. I spent a good amount of time messing with it and got it down about 3 inches but it took me another half hour of messing with the switch to get it all the way back up a tiny bit at a time. I took the switch apart and cleaned the contacts but it didn't help. Weather is getting warm and it really sucks not having a working window. Any ideas guys?? Thanks for any help!

The regulator is getting stuck, or the motor is going out.

Is there any way to narrow it down to one or the other? I'll do some more searches for those two issues, thanks.

Pull the door panel off and take a look, while moving the switch.

Ok I'll give that a shot. See if anything is out of the ordinary. I have had the door panel off before. The sheet metal that the motor is riveted to has about a 3 inch crack. I didn't think anything of it though.

It may have gotten worse causing the motor to start to twist, and not twist the regulator.

Ok I looked at it today and the only thing I was able to figure out is that the motor gets super hot while the Jeep is running. I was trying to get the window to move and I was only able to get it to go down about half an inch while messing with the switch and banging on the sheet metal with my fist. I realized the motor was getting hot, not sure if from me messing with the switch or from some problem with motor so I just unplugged it to be safe.

Was it hot before messing with it? If so it may be bad.

No it wasn't hot at all when I first started. I didn't notice it until a few minutes after I was running the Jeep. Not sure if it got hot from me messing with the switch or if it gets hot anytime the Jeep is running. Doesn't seem normal. Pretty unnerving, so I unplugged it and left it like that for now.

It may have gotten hot from trying to make the window go down, and something preventing it, like the regulator may be jammed. But better safe than sorry, you dont want a fire.
