door panel switch

The door panel switch will not lock the door from the drivers side. Sometimes it will work but most time it will not. I have to lock the doors from the passenger side. Can I replace the black box where the wiring harness plugs into? Please advise. Thanks Much!!

Yes, it's just held in by three small screws on the back side. Saw a couple last time I was at the junkyard a few days ago. I've got a spare myself.

Yes,there is also a you tube video showing how to resolder the circuit board. It also shows how open the black box,so you can clean it with electric parts cleaner. The contacts do get dirty.I replaced mine but I wish I would of tried cleaning it first. The part is about 60 bucks new.

Sorry Morrie. I'm greedy like that ha ha. Actually it's hanging off the door right now since I've got the XJ stripped down for paint and stuck it on to be able to work the windows instead of pulling the one out of the door panel. It's a real pain that the driver control won't work the other windows without all the switches being installed, had to pull all the ones out of my wrecked spare parts XJ and stick them on.

Tell you what though, if you need it I'll run by the j.y. at the end of the week and get one (or more), test it, and send it to you for whatever it costs me. I almost grabbed one when I was there last time anyway.
