does coil need grounded on 92 cherokee

does my coil have to be grounded to the block on my 92 cherokee why i ask is because i have a starting problem and i put a 89 block in it with no place to mount the coil.so i mounted it on the bracket for the alternator but it is loose and i didnt know if that could cause my starting problem.

Yes it does. The coil grounds to the block on the 90 and up cherokee. Tighten it or mount it someplace else. Block or body doesnt matter

They dont. On the 89 they mount to the body. Totally different ignition system. 89 is the renix system.
