what wire do i have to cut to stop the buzzer from sounding when keyes are in the ignition. i would pull the buzzer out but i want it to buzz when the lights are left on. 2000 cherokee
On my 1996 there was a black box that looked like a relay on the fuse panel by the driver's left foot called a "combination buzzer". I popped it off and no more buzzing. However, it will also not buzz if you leave the lights on after turning off the ignition, so make sure you turn them off! If it's not there, look in your owner's manual in the fuse section and look for the combination buzzer.
i pulled the switches out of the door jamb with a pair of pliers and put them in my glove box--works like a charm and the headlight still buzzes when i forget to turn them off!
edit--no worries cause this process can be reversed too..
On saturday I pulled the switch out of the door jamm and cut the black wire. Killed the door buzzer but I haven't driven at night since then, so I don't know about the light buzzer yet..
My 98 XJ Sport has the buzzer attached to the back of the instrument cluster its easy enough to remove and that way the interior lights still work when you open the door.. and the headlight and key buzzer is the same (be careful removing if on the instrument cluster I got a little rammy and ended buying a used cluster)
hope it helps
That spring clip is for when Wrangler owners remove their doors, they can keep courtesey lights and door buzzers from coming on.
I removed my black box. And no more buzzing, except twice. The ignition was on with the door open, and something under the dash made a HORRID buzzing/grinding noise.
Yeah I thought so. Wouldnt that be better than pulling them out with pliers, if wranglers and XJ's use the same switches. Maybe the clips wouldnt allow the door to close though.
Just did mine 2 days ago. I opened up the buzzer unit and worked out which wire needed removing. On my UK RHD 95 XJ it was the pink wire with a purpley blue tracer. All I did was ease it out of the plastic multi connecter and pushed it into an unused position (of which there were two spare slots). That way it is easily reversible and no loose cables dangling.
