Dieseling after warm up
Pretty straight forward, after the jeep gets up to temperature it continues to run after the key is removed. After searching this I found a thread talking about adjusting the timing on the distributor.
I don't know about this, looking at my distributor I don't see a way to adjust it and in that thread it was a 2.5l. I am looking into new injectors incase it is leaky injectors Any one have more advise on this?

Does it have a carb? IDK with an '87. But if fuel injected, leaky injectors could be the culprit. Also how hot are you running, that can have a factor in it as well.

Touching the engine seems real hot to the touch but it has not blown up or sound like boiling since a new water pump. Make what you can out of this and tell me all about it, but to my understanding overheating would be more likely to cause dieseling. |

Okay so a hot motor issue could be ruled out. I don't think it's leaky injectors because when you think about it, when the motor is shut off the intake valve is shut as well, how could fuel from a leaky injector get in there then. Yours has EGR IIRC, if that isn't giving enough exhaust your combustion temps. could be higher than they should, causing the dieseling.

Well went out there today and tested the egr. Bad news is that it passed, I opened it with a screw driver and the engine almost died.
The good news is that on the site he said that his passed also but still needed replacing. I'm looking for a different way to test it now because I'm not one to just start replacing parts especially 60$ ones. On an interesting note, putting the car in reverse prevents the dieseling and stops it if the key is out of the ignition. Anything else that could cause this? It almost sounds like it might be electrical perhaps? |
