No. You did it the right way. Doing it above that body line would really screw things up. First of all you would have to fold the sheet metal in the opposite direction than it is folded now, which is very difficult to do without bending the surrounding panels. Secondly it would be a lot of work getting it to seal up since the "floor" you are creating doesn't match up with the other flap on the inside. Hard to explain but if you've done the modification already, you should understand clearly why this is the best way and going higher would require a lot more fab work to do it right.

I need to find time to do this. I hope it goes smoothly since one of my quarters is pretty busted up already. Anyone know how the install is on damaged quarter panels? I'm assuming it'll make it harder since I won't be riveting on a flat surface...

is it just damaged where you fold it up? fold it up, then beat it with a hammer. I didn't rivet, i tack welded mine. It was scary b/c of being so close to the gas tank, but i took precautions such as a fire blanket over the tank and kept a fire extinguisher nearby. and as for finding time, it doesn't take very long. maybe an hour each side.

I just did this to mine this weekend. Still have to finish it up. What did you do about the cover for the gas filler tube?

the cover for the gas filler tubes wasn't on in the first place because i dropped the tank a few weeks ago. haven't got around to putting it back on, and probably won't. here are more pics, finished today.
