Detroit True Trac vs. Powertrax?

Cost aside, which is better, why?

Which one performs more smoothly with the D30/8.25 set-up?

Which one is quieter?

FYI- The intention is to have Limited Slips front and rear. And this will be a daily driver truck subject to North East US weather conditions (i.e. mainly ice/snow in winter months - on road, and mud/clay - off road).

i've heard that autolockers up front absolutely SUCK in the snow/ice. your best bet is selectable lockers f/r or at least selectable front, powertrax rear. ive heard/read powertrax is better.

i thought the powertrax was a locker? if not, i think the true trac is the only gear driven limited slip, i ran one and you never know its there, but its locks up great when needed

PowerTrax is a lunchbox style locker that can be installed without touching the ring and pinion gears or carrier, which gives you a lower install cost. It is a bit quiter than a lockright, but still may make some noises.

TrueTrac is a gear driven Limited Slip that replaces your open carrier and you need to reshim the carrier and transfer the ring gear over. Very quiet and smooth in the front.

Which is best depends on your budget and use of your XJ.

Driving in snow/ice with any locker or limited slip takes a little more care and attention to detail, whether it is factory TracLok or aftermarket locker/limited slip.

Doesn't PowerTrax make the "No-Slip" LSD lunchbox?

http://www.quadratec.com/products/76104_814.htm
http://www.off-road.com/jeep/reviews/powertrax/

Seems to me, though, that I saw them elsewhere for under $300. Maybe just my imagination, who knows...

P.S. - If it's for your 2000 remember to go 29 spline on that 8.25. Yes, I figure you already knew that but what the heck... besides, to order, you'd have to specify 27 or 29 anyhow.

The PT No-Slip is a great locker. I've been running one for 60K+ miles. Decent on-pavement charac. and beautiful off-road. Deff. gets tricky in snow and ice, I took mine out in the winter when my XJ was my DD.

The only beef I've heard with the Tru-Trac is if you've got a wheel off the ground it WILL just spin that wheel, you have to feather the brake to create some friction to lock it up.

So.....so it looks like TruTrac might be the better choice for the front....

Undecided on the rear....

Anyone with air-lockers ---- where do you have the buttons mounted? Can you post some pics?

tnx
