Detroit True Trac opinions?

So since I need a new carrier to regear my D44 I've been shoping around and found that a Detroit True Trac is pretty close to the same price as a new open carrier and a drop in type locker such as aussies and ez lockers.

Any opinions on which would be better? I do drive my xj on the street but it's main purpose is the trail and camping.

i don't care for the true-tracks. some of my friends run them and love them. but i can't see where it dose any diff. every time anyone see two tires spinnin they all say there's that true-track but to me it dosen't look any different when someone with out it goes up the say hill. my money would be on the locker. even tho that is a lot more money. but hey! anything more is better than stock!

The True-trac would be a good choice for a front axle or rear axle in a rig that sees a lot of pavement. I've never heard anything bad about them.

had one in the front, worked great, ratcheted like no other on turns in 4lo but it pulled it's weight when it was needed. I vote for it.

So if I was to drop an ezlocker or the likes into my carrier what could I expect for longevity? I've heard than the little pins and springs break easily. I would prefer to use one of these types of lockers over the True trac but I don't want to have to replace/repair it regularily. As for a true locker they aren't in my budget right now and the type of wheeling I do doesn't really warrrant the expense.

TruTrack will be the best LSD option. Uses gears instead of clutches. You can "soft" lock the TruTrack by applying the the brake. It will give about a 60/40 split to the wheels. I will (with luck) be putting TruTracks both front and rear by the end of the year.

They seem to be the best option for a dual purpose pavement pounder, mudder, and trail XJ. For larger rocks and hair shelf type terrain, nothing will beat a full locker.

My local shop tells me there is no option for a 27spline 8.25 rear axle. The 29 spline is new and that's the one I want. This way I get the LSD I want and I upgrade to 29spline axles with one swoop!

If the type of wheeling you do doesn't require "true lockers" then I doubt you will break the pins in a lunchbox.

where can i get tru tracks? They sound perfect for what I use my jeep for (daily driver that sees some rough/muddy North East terrain on the weekends)

How much would they cost to install?

I have one in front of my TJ. Works great for the wheelin I do. I went full Detroit locker in the rear. At the time I had it installed with new gears for $200 labor. If I decide to do anything with the XJ I will probably go tru trac in the front.
