Deleting stock fuel pressure regulator?

I have a 93 XJ with the return style fuel system. I'm trying to delete the stock fuel pressure regulator (on the fuel rail) to use an external fuel pressure regulator. Is this something that has been done before?

I was trying to think about the best way to do this... anyone have any ideas about this?

Dony know if its been done ,but I would do it by tapping the end of the fuel rail where the stock regulator fits in then screw in whatever type of fitting you want to plumb your new regulator.

Have you looked at a cherokee regulator? I don't want to tap that area. I just want to block it off. Wanna know the best way to do that, without hacking it up so its irreversable.

I've seen several , on the fuel rail and attached to the fuel pump. I'm not sure exaclty what it is your trying to do. Are you trying to replace the stock one with something aftermarket or are you trying to plumb in a bypass type regulator with a new return line or what ?

No problems. Don't want a hesco, I already have a FPR I want to use, that mounts independently of the fuel rail.

Looks like this:

http://www.autocarparts.com/images/ACP/Aeromotive/aeromotive_A1000-6_Regulator.jpg

I just want to be able to plumb it up, and I want to have the stock one removed so I dont have 2 regulators trying to do the same thing.

how do i remove the stock FPR and run the car that way without fuel spraying out the hole where the regulator used to be? (cause that is what will happen if i just take it off)

Does anyone dig what i'm saying yet?

That a bypass type FPR with 2 inlet ports and 1 return port , that's gonna be a PITA to plumb ! Not worth it in my opinion , way more part then what you need for an inline six .

ah, sorry... i guess mine isn't exactly like that. Just one inlet, one outlet. I have my own reasons for wanting to do it. The purpose of this thread isn't asking for opinions on that.

I'm asking, has anyone ever done this or had experience with it? Sounds like you havent, skinnyme, so you can mosey on.

I see no benefit to this whatsoever. You significantly increasing the power of your engine and need more fuel?

wow, is using an adjustable FPR really that foreign to jeep people? It happens on the sportscar world all the time. And yes, I need it.

I was thinkign about maybe just cutting the stock FPR apart and just taking out the diaphragm/spring from the FPR, so it basically doesn't raise fuel pressure at all. Almost like its not there, but it would still be there to seal up that hole in the fuel rail.

Why don't you just plug off the stock fuel pressure regulators output port? That way even if it trys to return some fuel to the tank it's got nowhere to go

Dear Mr. Jerky, You posted in a Public forum, so you WILL get all sorts of question and information. It's then up to you to decifer the info. Perhaps if people knew WHY you wanted to do this they could suggest a different route, plan, or idea.

Or....we could all just flame you for your misdirected punk-azz comments.

You choose.

A jeep is not a sports car. My Cobra has an adjustable FPR, but it makes almost 600whp and runs 16 lbs of boost. Probably a bit too much for the stock regulator. Plus it was on the fuel rail and very easy to change. Isn't the jeep FPR in the gas tank near the pump?

If you are swapping in a V8, going stroker, or supercharging, then I could see needing it. Any other reason, no way.

So where is the stock regulator? This would make it easier to know if you can delete it or move it.
