K, I want to do some performance mods on my 91 Laredo. This is my idea: Go to the pic-a-part here in town, find a 4.0L head and take it to the local machine shop. There, have them port and polish the intake and exhaust ports, polish the bowls and deck the mating surface on the bottom of the head. Also, i was gonna have them install all new seals, springs, retainers, all vlaves, and give it an angle job. I was then gonna install this on my Jeep. Has any one done this and if so, what advice can they give me. Thanks

i can give you some advise...do it yourself. if you're competent enough to correctly remove the head, you can invest a hundred bucks in a dremel and other tools. take a little off at a time, keep it smooth and steady, use a sharpie to watch what you're taking off, and soon you'll have a max ported head...
probably worth another 50 or so horsepower and torque...maybe
you'd be better off putting in a new cam and new springs on top of the stock vales over all the machine work necessary. a cam is only 200 bucks, new springs are about 60, a new timing chain is about a hundred bucks for a good one...

A good shop should be able to put in some bigger valve and gasket match the head for a reasonable price.
Couple that with an aftermarket exhaust, 99+ intake manifold, bored tb, a nice header, and a high flow air cleaner setup and you should see some nice gains.
Power gains are directly proportional to money spent.

Well, would be taking a casting and having all that work (valves, springs, seals, and retainers + port and Polish and polishing the bowls, and an angle job) be worth it if I dont have the time right now to pull the cam and stuff. I have enough experince to swap heads and time. The one hang up is that I dont have the time to do the polishing myself, but i do have time to do the swap...
