Custom winch bumper and rear bumper build (almost finished)

Hey guys,

I started building my own bumpers and Im not finished yet but Im almost there, and hopefulyl this weekend I'll be finished. I built a front winch bumper and a rear bumper (attempting to replicate the C-Rok offroad design).

The front still needs the winch plate and stinger added. I also need to add the d-rings and rear quarter panels/ end caps and the hitch mount

This is the link the album that I created. All of the information that I added is a comment on the picture.

This was a very time consuming build so enjoy!

Front looks really good. What is your plan for the rear one? Are you going to trim below the tail lights? Make it an air tank? Tire carrier?

The rear has since been trimmed to run flush with the lower quarter panel. Im going to build (out of 1/8" steel plate) some steel end pieces that will conform to the quarter panel angles. It will look like the C-Rok offroad bumper when its all done. Im then going to use some small pieces of steel to fill in around the tail lights.

I have the roof mounted spare alreeady but Ive been considering taking it off and mounting either a Bronco II spare tire carrier to the rear or a spare tire swing from a Hummer H2. The Hummer H2 swing mount would be a good option cuz it mounts to the outside of the bumper, not on the top of it, and my bumper is flush mounted.

I have also discovered that Kegs are good for more than one thing, haha!

Its actually 2"x6" rectangulare tubing (the mouts on the frame are a little over 5" high so I figured it was a good idea)

Here is the materials used for the build, hope this help!

Yea I used two, 6ft sections of 2"x6" rectangular tube as the main sections for the front and rear. The tubing is all 3/16" thick.

I used one, 6ft long piece of 2"x2" square tube for the end pieces, and center support for the front and as part of the rear bumper mounting system. This tube was also 3/16" thick.

The front mounting plates was a 2'x1' piece of 1/4" steel plate that I measured, drilled, and cut to run down the front of the unibody and it utilizes all of the available holes in the front section of the unibody. (7 on the passenger side and I think 9 on the driver side)

* note I am using the JCR offroad gear box mount (4 hole style)

The inner bracing of the front framerail (directly under the grill) I used a flat piece of 3/16" thick plate. I used this same plate for all the gussets, the re-welding of the lower part of the front bumper that I angle cut off, and also for parts of the rear bumper mounts.

The top parts of the front bumper that are the plates are made from 1/8" steel (to help reduce the weight)

The winch plate isn't finished yet but Im going to be cutting it down in the front (hence why the 2"x2" center bar is slightly lower than the rest of the bumper).

Also Harbor Frieght sells d-rings (10,000lb. capacity) and hitch holes.

I also still need to finish the rear corners, Im using the 1/8" steel plate for that since its slightly easier to conform.

Good Luck!
