custom front bumper finished and new winch installed - PICS

Finally finished it

the bumper is made almost entirely of 1" square tubing with the lower half covered in sheetmetal, and 1/4" plate for the primary bracing for the winch, the center section is of course the mounting bracket that comes with the winch but is in no way designed for an XJ

the winch doesn't block the radiator at all

the fairlead bolts were too long, gotta get shorter ones

didn't hurt the approach angle too much

The mounts, 1/4" plate on the bottom and 1/8" plate on the top, the lower plate is reinforced by the hitch mount which uses the swaybar bolts

- by no means am I a great welder/fabricator but I'm happy with it

questions/comments???

i like the bumper/winch setup. i wouldn't mind one myself. The only thing is the grill and brush guards are too squared for my taste. The corners are too sharp. Maybe if they were made of 1" round tubing. now that would look better. but the bumper looks sick. dang no more thumbs up smiley!!! i'll try though...

for this one I used a 90amp wire welder (like mig but no gas), just uses flux shielded wire. It's actually a harbor freight model mig-100 (even though it's not really mig) but it works fairly well for the price

I at first bought a cheap arc welder and this wire welder is sooooo much easier

Looking good.

I became a big fan of the gonzo cow killer front bumpers when I totaled my YJ by hitting a cow.

What do you guestimate the weight of it to be?

since it's mainly tubular construction it's not too heavy, counting the mounting channel probbly 40-45 lbs (roughly) - the mounting channel alone is about 15lb
