crank position sensor?

does anyone know what the symptoms of a bad crank position sensor would be. I think its the only sensor I havent replaced and still having hesitation- surging.

I know when mine went out, it would randomly just not start. It would crank but not fire.

Then it would start right up after you left it for a while.

Have you tried seafoam in the gas tank, that sometimes makes the engine run a little smoother, and its a hell of a lot cheaper than a CPS, it wouldnt hurt

The crank sensor is not your problem. Once the engine is running, the ECU doesn't use it. Before you buy any more parts, check the basics- gummed up throttle body, vacuum leaks, bad dist. cap/rotor, spark plug wires, etc. Any trouble codes?

Hmm, I had a 92 Cherokee that cut off while driving. Threw a CPS code, changed it, and it has been running fine ever since, about 3 weeks ago. Maybe mine was just really bad?

Always start with the cheapest and easiest solution, simple maintenance. Also check for loose or corroded wire plugs and connectors.

why would the cps only be used when starting but not running? Im confused on this point also. how else does the ecu know what position the crank is in (my 2000 has no distributer).

anyway when my CPS went it simply wouldnt start period. and I got "NO BUS" in the odometer. I think my gauges were dead too.

this is a 2000.

checked all of that stuff, the throttle body was really gummed ups as well as the erg valve. cleaned it all put it all back together and still have problem. no codes.

No. This can be disproved by disconnecting the wiring harness to the CPS while the engine is running. The engine dies instantly.
