This could be a problem

I just went to install new speakers in my XJ, and I go to remove the drivers side speaker. I pull it out, and there is this thing all tangled in with the wires, looks like some spring mechanism with a long arm on it.

I search around and realize it is the thing that holds the door open. So I check where it mounts on the door, and there is a big hole where the nut pulled through the metal.

Now I realize as long as I dont swing the door out and let it stress the hinges it should be ok without it, but should I try and fix it anyway? The only thing I can think to do would be to get some thin sheet metal, and sandwhich on either side of the door metal, then put the bolt through that. I can take some pics if you dont know what I'm talking about. I guess I could also bring the door to a local welder, see what he can do.

I'm not sure what the hole looks like but maybe you could just put on a big washer.

Yeah I may try to find a few big washers..hopefully the bolt is long enough to go through both.
