Coolant Temperature Sensor

Could this sensor cause backfiring, rich conditions, lack of power? I hear that it controls fuel/air mixture and injector pulse width, could this be the problem?

that sounds more like an O2 sensor problem.

Well, I've replaced all of that, that's where I went first but I'm way past the basics, I'm down to the point where I'm thinking intake valves, I gotta do a compression test first, but I just didn't want to get that far before I found out it was a $10 sensor I could replace......
