Coolant Temperature Sensor

Ok I was draining the coolant in my 1994 Jeep Cherokee and I noticed that I didn't see the engine coolant sensor on the left side of the engine block. (it should have two wires coming out of it right?). If its not there, would that cause the engine to sputter and stall when it idles? If so how hard is it to install a new one wires and all? Thanks for the help

The older models (renix) had the temp sensor on the left side of the block. Your 94 has one for the gage on the t-stat housing and one for the computer at the back of the head, left side of valve cover. The sputtering/stall could be the throttle position sensor or air intake control valve. There are many posts on both of these so do a search.

Actually, that's bass ackwards. Sender for gauge is at the back of the head. Sensor for the PCM is at the thermostat housing.
