Choices of lockers

I was just wondering what set-ups for lockers you guys are running. I just finished building my first cherokee like a month and a half ago, so i'm starting to look into locking. I've seen tons of different set-ups ( like Aussie locker in front(cheap), lunchbox in rear or selectable in rear) thing is i only really want one for now, and living in CT i will have to drive in snow quite a bit, what do you think?
p.s. i have the Chrysler 8.25 and D30

You will notice any lunchbox(an Aussie is one) in the snow. If you are worried about that, selectables are your only option. Within the selectable realm, ARB is the only option for a good reliable locker.

That said, I am putting an Aussie in the front of my XJ, and there is plenty of snow here, too. Aussie "claims" to have a locker for the 8.25 sometime this summer. If they do, I will get one for the rear as well.

Otherwise, a detroit wouldn't be a bad option for the rear if you do not want to go with ARB's.

OX's currently lockers are quite reliable in our experience. No less so than ARBs.

Between our two Jeeps we've got one Detroit, one OX, and two ARBs. IMHO, selectable is the only way to go, especially for a daily driver, but that's not always within budget for many folks.

I run an autolocking rear and have no problems whatsoever in the snow.

The major problem with OX is that they did not do proper research prior to launching their product. They essentially tested it on their customers.

They switched hands numerous times throughout the years and left many dozens of their customers hanging with worthless warranties.

I personally would stay away from them. ARB will definately outshine OX in customer service as well as their product.

I haven't assembled mine yet, but I have Aussies for the front and rear in mine.

I'll be swapping out the carriers when I regear, so I wanted a cheap fast solution.

I don't daily drive mine, so road manners are not as important to me. With the XJs wheel base, they aren't as problematic as the shorter wheel base wranglers.

I definitely agree with your first statement. They rushed the product to market too quickly and that caused a lot of problems, but OX has been stable and producing quality products for the last few years. I'd personally have no concerns going with their products again, and in fact it would be my first choice actually due to the simplicity.

We got one of their first generation D30 lockers for our TJ, and ran into all the first gen bugs, and had nothing but good experiences with their customer service and warranty. In fact, when the spiders finally grenaded on us back in 2004 (original 2-pinion carrier) they replaced the whole carrier free of charge (they were surprised it has lasted this long), we just had to ship back the busted parts. Since the last of our original parts were replaced with 2nd gen or newer designs, we've had no troubles with our OX locker.

Just like RockKrawler, the OX of today is far from the company it was.

Plenty of snow here, and auto locked front and rear (Lockright/d30, PowerTrax/8.25). Yes it is different than open diffs, but you learn to drive with them, honestly its more predictable in the snow. This is my daily driver, and had the rear locked first, and enjoyed that more by itself than having both locked DD'ing. Front just makes some noise in slow sharp turns but otherwise fine.

Misiek, i'm in middlebury, which in case your not familiar with it is like right next to waterbury, like exit 16 off 84

Back to the thread, So if i was to only get one locker, should i go for front or rear, and if it's in the rear do i need to shell out the dough for the selectable or can i get by with the lunchbox, cuz from what i've kinda gathered in the front lunchbox in snow=bad, but what about the rear?

You will be much happer with the front locked by itself that just the rear. If you can afford it go for an ARB setup for the front. If you can't, get an Aussie for the front and use caution when driving in the snow(you should be anyway).

Not worth it. Get an Aussie instead.
