chips

hey,
i was wondering if i need a new computer or chip for my inline 6. i bored it ovewr .60 over and put a comp camp in it. also i am running a H.O. head on the 88 block. it idles fine but i was wondering if a chip would do anything or be better for the more"high performance" engine.

also where is a good put to find gears for my front dana 35. i am hoping to run 3.73 or maybe even 4.11's. if someone could tell me where to find gears and if i should run a rear locker and not front or run both.

what is the best header to get for a 1988 4.0. i put a 96 H.O. head on it so i dont know if that is going to make a big difference on what header to run or if everything well be able to run alright on a non stock header.
thanks for all of the help.

I haven't heard all that many good reviews for the custom chips. You'd be better off purchasing a adjustable fuel pressure regulator, a bored TB, better ignition and wires, and maybe a adjustable MAP sensor (iffy on the last one, the adj regulator should cure any fuel issues).

Check out Hesco for a on of aftermarket performance parts:

I'm pretty sure you'd need a header for a 96 if that's the head you're using.

I've heard the chips are a waste of money for Jeeps. I don't know why but thats what I've heard.

ive been wondering the same thing, but there is not an aftermarket chip for an 88...just get a highaltitude CPS, and youll be fine, itll advance the timing, and youll get good power on that, and upgrade the injectors to 24lb accel units, to richen it up a bit, for better power

you dont have a front 35...you have a front 30, otherwise, lots of places carry them, 4wheelparts, randys ring and pinion, drivetrain direct...

ive never thought about the header situation on a non ho with a ho head before...

borla, thorley, and leech are all good headers

check out my site, and the yahoo stroker group, theyll be able to answer that q fully...

Just buy a 90 or below header. The HO is just the head, and has nothing to do with the exhaust, and how it lines up.

hey master fabricator ...the header hooks onto the head...

im not 100% sure if thats the difference (the diff might be in the o2 sensor...) but YES it has ALOT to do with a header!

I never said it doesn't hook up to the head. I said that it has nothing to do with how it lines up. The HO is stiffer springs, etc. And seriously...grow up.

you said it had nothing to do with the head...doesnt that constitute you saying that it doesnt hook up to the head?

I mentioned the header in refference to the fact it is a 96 head. I did think they made changes to the port on the intake and exhaust for thr HO head. I know they deburred parts of the runners for the HO verses the nonHO head. I just wasn't sure if that would chage the mounting flange.

I know the older XJ use some kind of air-box choke system off of header, and the newer models don't so I guess it would need to be the 88 header. That or mod the air box to make it work.
