Chevy 350 swap

Ok I got a idea for my 89 XJ. I want to give it some muscle with a chevy 350 but I do beleive that I have to swap out my tranny and transfer case along with it. And I want to put a ford 9" in the rear and a Dana 44 in the front with a driverside dif. My question is what manual transmission and transfer case could I use?

from the description, I'm guessing carbureated, I don't know of any EFI engines that do that.

As for what kinds of components, the ford 9 and d44 sound good, the Atlas 2 is a sweet TC and I'm not able to speak about the tranny, I don't know too much about transmissions.

You CAN use anything you want, but what you should use are the best components that you can afford

Yeah I dont think I would have a budget for an Atlas, I heard that a for np208 works but I dont know if it would match up with a chevy tranny.

as far as I know, you can match any transfer case to any tranny, providing that you can get or make an adapter for the different spline counts

find a 231 out of an older model jeep anything, they are very reliable and your jeep probably already has one. nothing wrong with them.

from what I remember, the 302 is the largest Chevy motor that will go in the engine bay without MAJOR modification.

although they should have kept the 302 instead of going to a 305, i've had 3 vehicles with the 305 and they are hurting for power big time!

Cool knowing that the Tcase should'nt be much of a problem. I know that a 350 is a tight fit, but I've seen it done before I know that it must be lifted more than 3" so I'm good there but I should probably pull some measurments from a engine to get a better idea for it. As far as a manual tranny what would be a good pick I would want a 3 or 4 speed but I have been having trouble getting good specs. on anything.

The blocks are almost the exacts same size between the 305 and the 350. You can stroke a 350 to a 383. I've seen a 383 in a lifted 98 XJ. It fit fine...He was running a TH-350 and a NP-205 btw...

What would be a good chevy tranny to look for. I've heard good things about the TH-350 but I also heard it kills power.

if you have to lift the engine some 3 inches for clearance, you might look into getting a cowl induction hood for your xj and chopping material out of the underside. The stock hood may or may not allor for proper clearance, I don't know, but a cowl hood certainly would
