chevy 14 bolt?
i know this isnt XJ tech per se, but i can go in an XJ
the guy at the junkyard said he didnt know what year it was or what model. He thinks its an early 80s one. On the inside it said scottsdale on the dash. it had the bed with the "cabinets on the outside" (not sure if that helped) ![]() some pics to verify its a 14 bolt...is it a good 14 bolt? ![]() ![]() any good? -Brendan

The better 14 bolt is the full floater style axle. The easiest way to tell weather or not it's a full floater is to look at the ends of the axles at the wheels.
A full floating axle will have a large hubs protruding from the center of the wheels with about 6 bolts that attach the axle shaft to the hub. The outer ends of the axle shafts on a semi floating 14 bolt will look basicly like the rear axles in an XJ, pretty much flat. Hope that helps you! ![]() |

thanks...i just checked with the guy and he says it does have hubs on the rear. since its a full floater, does that mean that it has a certain spline count?
from what i've read its either 31 or 35 splines.

Yea that looks like a 14 bolt.
are you thinking of fitting THAT on a xj.... because I would recomend agienst it. That sucker is HEAVY just the drum breaks are 70 lbs. I have seen an axle that size tare the crap out of a unibody xj before. it just too big for the frame to support.

i was just talking with a guy that said he just bought his full floater for 500 bucks...and i can get this one for 30 bucks, so if i can sell it for 300 or so i can make a decent profit on this one.

what gregmondo said. go to pirate4x4. if it isn't a 14 bolt under your cherokee it might as well be a dana 35..haha.
but for the OP. looking at the size of your jeep, there is no need what-so-ever for a 14 bolt, unless you have some major body work, and 40s in the near future. from the looks of the rig, and as nice of shape as its in, i doubt youll go over 33s with it anytime soon. and youve already got an 8.8 rear. ive seen plenty of people run them locked on 37s bone stock with no problems. ive been beating on mine for almost a year locked on 35s without any worries and itll be an anchor without a 36+ inch tire

I got my 14BFF for my wrangler for 250 with discs
Those things are damn heavy...550 pounds, 70 of which are the drums. It was a show watching me and a buddy drag it through the snow to the shed where Im going to work on it.
