Cherokee Head lights stay on

I have a 94 Cherokee, when I turn the engine off and leave the headlights on, they won't turn off unless turn the ignition back to the start position. (then they go off instantly) If I turn the headlights off before I kill the engine the go off no problem. It is almost like a safety feature that went wrong. Any ideas?

Kyle

Have you waited a minute or 2 to see if they turn off?

Its a feature added by Jeep that they do this. Its so you can walk to your front door or whatever and the lights help you see. They should go off automatically after 45 seconds or so.

I have the exact same problem. I dont think its a safety feature because the lights will actually be switched to the on position. Then when you relize you've left them on and push the knob in, they dont turn off. Then as soon as you turn the key to accessories, they go off. I have no idea what it is but is effing annoying.

if you turn the lights off before you turn the key off, they go off.

if you turn the key off first, then the lights, they stay on a timmer.

yah this is a cool feature I do it all the time even If I dont need to cause its freakin cool!

I wish my Honda had that feature for real yo!

I love it cause on my 91 most people wouldn't think that it has a feature like that and they tell me hey you left your lights on, i'm like no they will turn off but thanks. You can act all snooty like your driving a Mercedes or something hahahaha

Haha yeah, if you park in your driveway at night, it's a good way to see for a little while to get your key out and into the door!

bwahahhaha I remember reading when someone had just gotten there cherokee it had a bunch of hacked wiring, so after spending days repairing the wiring he turned the thing on, ran it for a while tested all the lights and then turned it off. When he turned it off he forgot the lights so he turned the lights off after and they stayed on!!!! He proceeded to begin taking the dash back out until he realized the lights went off on their own
