Check Gauges and check battery light - 97 Jeep Grand Cheerokee Laredo

here is my situation.

My check gauge light comes on after about 1-5 minutes of driving. The check battery indicator also pops up on the computer dash at the same time.

The batter voltage meter goes from 1/2 charged to zero at the point when the check gauges light comes on.
My Jeep starts up fine and drives okay with no power problems related to a battery issue it seems

Wondering if this may be a wire issue or something else.

Thanks for any input.

How old is the battery? If it is not a sealed battery, check the fluid level.

If its not the battery, sounds like a loose wire on the voltmeter.
