The evap purge control sensor is on the vacuum canister behind the left rear wheel in the bumper well. I have been told there is another one located somewhere toward the front of the vehicle, which I have not found.

I also have a blue 2001 xj w/ a ses lt on for emissions. I hooked up a smoke machine to it to find the leak and it was the evap vent valve leaking.

Well i got it fixed, i took it to my mechanic down town, and he ran the codes, and checked the system, he found that it was a broken gas cap, that wouldnt seal properly, so all in all, it cost 90 dollars for a new gas cap (15 (cap) and the rest for labor)

he said that these systems can give a false signal and give u wrong codes

so supposedly its fixed!

Damn how much time does it take for a gas cap to be put on? 90$ is alot of money for just a gas cap and a code reading!!!!

next time call me and i can give u our mechanics # and u can set up an appointment with him..... he would never charge u that much for a gas cap! and he reads codes for free!

I brought mine to the stealership with this same problem. Cost was 200 bucks plus they supposeably found some other crap that was wrong it so the grand total was 450 bucks. One week later the check engine light was back on again. Advance Auto ran it and lo and behold it was the same Evap Purge Flow f***ing code as before. I think I am going to burn that place down tonight.

try a gas cap, theyre cheap and could be the fix
