Cheap xj Mods
I have the rest of the week off from school and I really don't have anything to do besides college apps. What are some cheap mods that I can do on my 95 at home over the weekend. I am thinking of taking some diamond plate and making some 1/4 panel guards. I already have the templates made. Any other ideas besides that and the cheap light bar.
Thanks

Have ya yanked out the rear sway bar? Do you have disconnects up front?

No I haven't done either yet. How much will taking out the rear sway bar affect the handeling on the street. I know the difference it will make off the trail. If I do this my mom will probably be on me about safety if she finds out.

Rip off the rear swaybar. Come on. Do it. Can't tell a difference at all. Upcountry XJ's don't even have one from the factory.

ya taking off the rear sway bar is a good idea.. you wont really notice much of a handling difference unless you hit 90 degree turns at 70 mph...

That's the one I posted When I have free time and no money I generally go about cutting parts off that I don't need... but it sounds like you have probably done that already. If you have alittle cash, you can always do a junk yard walk... and look through cars to see if there is anything you would want to put in your rig... it is amazing what cool stuff you can find. If you want you could install hood vents... that you probably only cost you about $10.

Cold air intake:
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/325707/9 Bore your TB: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/325707/2 http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/325707/3 Relocate your oil pres sending unit, put on a couple of washers on the hood hinge for hood sapcers, build a "hidden" cargo deck, or turn signal gaurds: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/325707/8 Better yet, crawl under the XJ and grease EVERY SINGLE zerk you find on the front suspension and driveshafts. If you have any leaks, get under there and completely clean the under carraige with Simple Green to find the source of any mystery leaks.

You can go to your local auto part store and buy a roll of tint for $15 and tint your own windows if you haven't yet. You can buy a cone air filter and some pvc and fab up your own intake. You can add a little billet style to your grill, refer to the thread titled "is it gay? yay or nay?" for pics lol If you end up doing the diamond plate quarter panels I wanna see some pics!! lol

and also, for Balloo93...do you have to reconnect the hoses if you remove the stock airbox? I took mine out and just added a cone filter and left the hoses disconnected since a local auto store guy said it didn't make a difference. I just think it's funny how they just dangle in there. Is he wrong?

hell yes, he's wrong!
That's the crankcase ventilation system. By leaving them dangling, you're letting harmful gasses freely into the atmosphere, losing efficiency, and sucking unfiltered air into the engine. Tip: auto parts store flunkies are almost NEVER right....
