Catalytic Converter question

Well i am new here and i just got a 1997 jeep cherokee 4.0 4x4.My question is i need to do the whole exaust starting from the pipe at the exaust manifold.I wanted to know if i can get rid of the Catalytic Converter and replace it with straight pipe plus i would make a spot where the o2 sensor would go.I wanted to know if that would work or not.

Why would you want to do that ? The cat converter is there for a reason, if you need a new one, $100 and it will last for 100,000 miles.

The Jeep will run better and get gas mileage with a properly functioning cat converter.

Performance-curve.com sells hiflow cats for 40 dollars that's what I run. Not to mention removing emissions equipment is illegal.
