Can u identify this lift kit? Answer some newbie questions?

Hey all,

I got my jeep already lifted. I am extremely new to trucks, lifts, and big tires, so please be easy on me...

The kid said he didnt remember what kinda lift it was, or how much it lifted it, he guessed around 3". He said it came with replacement shocks (shocks say "Tuff Country" "and EZ Ride"), coils, lca's, and lift blocks:

1.) Anyone know what kit it is? Is Tuff Country a Brand?

2.) Anyone have a guess as to how much of a lift it is? The wheels are 15" and the tires are 265/75/15 (he said they were 31's, but i guess not)

3.) Is it possible to get another inch or two without buying a whole new lift kit? Can I just buy this and that and get it a lil higher?

Tuff Country does make a lift kit for Cherokees - http://tuffcountry.com/suspension_jeep_cherokee.html

By looking at your pics I think I would replace all that with a whole kit rather than add to what you've got. The reason is first of all you definitely need a whole new leaf pack. I wouldn't add on to that setup with the 3" block plus it looks like you could use new U-bolts (those look pretty rusty).

On the front some things I notice are the swaybar links look a little short and how is that brakeline? Can't see where it attaches to the fender well but it doesn't look like there is a whole lot of slack in it. You don't want to rip the brakeline out when flexing. Those things and others would be addressed in a good quality kit.

Lets say I end up going that route (which I am sure I will enventually), would I even be able to sell this lift off? Would I even get enough to make it worth selling?

3" lift blocks?!?!?!?!?!? Good grief that is not a good idea. Those things reek havock on leafpacks. I couldn't tell if there is a spacer or just springs up front. Those would be about the only sellable thing on the kit.

If the shocks are in good shape then just get yourself some 3-3.5" (rear seems to sit lower on most XJ) leafpacks and go from there. Or just get 4-4.5" leafpacks and a 1-1.75" spacer for the front and that will give you about a 4" lift. I don't know if you'd need a SYE or not.

the shocks are still good. I'd like to get about 5-6" of total lift. Is it worth it to simply purchase leaf packs and spacers for the front vs. buying a whole kit?

EDIT: with that much lift would i be okay with the LCA's that came with the Tuff Country kit? Would I need UCA's?

To go 6+ you'll have to get new shocks and the whole 9yards. I would mess with spacers to get 6", you won't have as much flex due to the fact that spacer don't compess.

You'd also be better off getting new LCA's and UCA's with that much lift.

I doubt it would be worth it. I know its tempting to do that because its cheap but in my reply above I mentioned some other things that you will definitely need to address (swaybar discos, brakelines) if you go any higher. Its not as easy as just throwing on a spacer for the front. Also I don't know the condition of your trackbar, but at 5 - 6" of lift you will need an adjustable trackbar.

I vote for a getting a complete kit. You could probably sell off the coils for cheap and possibly even the LCAs.

To get an idea of your current lift height, measure from the center oh you hub, up to the bottom edge of your fender flare. Stock measurements are 17.5" Front, and 17" Rear.
And, like what was mentioned before, it is better off getting a new, complete kit. First thing I would look into, even if you have to keep the kit you have now for awhile, would be longer brakelines. Go to your nearest OReilly's, and get some jeep wrangler non-ABS brakelines from an 89-95 Wrangler. Should only run you about $30 for both fronts, and about $12-15 for the rear. You don't have to flex or go offroad to over stretch those brakelines. It could be as simple as pulling out of a declining driveway and turning onto a street to snap those brakelines, then you will be having a really bad day.
