Can start Jeep without key
As the title says. I can just turn my ignition on without having the key in. What the world do I do about this?

You have to lock the steering wheel and it wont start thats normal unless you lock it.

Had the same thing on my 88 XJ... I could take the key out when ever i wanted, so if i didn't turn it all the way back to lock, than i could start it again without the key. So its probably just a matter of turning the key all the way back and making sure that it locks.

My 84 could have the key removed while running but it would "lock" and need the key to re-start. My 92 didnt need a key as the previous owner lost them. I pulled the tumbler from a 92 at the junkyard and installed that. Now I have 2 keys for my XJ. Locksmith can change the ignition tumbler to my door locks for 15 bux, but I am not tangling with that obnoxious snap ring that holds the steering wheel lock plate in again. Maybe when I decide to fix my cruise by pulling the blinker "stalk" I will rekey my ignition.

The older style GM column in the older Jeeps are really prone to this. A lot of older GM vehicles will do it. Who knows why Jeep put a GM column in them though??

I donno but its great to have , so ur keys aren't chilling there and ratting around on the trail and You can put them in ur pocket so there secure but you can still start the truck back up when your wheeling and its not like anyone is going to try and steal it out there or anything
