Can somebody approve my HID plans on 98XJ

Hey guys, I've been driving a lexus around for the past couple of days and when I got back in my Jeep it really made me realize how much my headlights SUCK haha. I was thinking of maybe doing an HID conversion kit so that I can have some better visibility at night. I dont want to upgrade to silverstars because I see them as a waste of money in the long run. My top lights are awesome but I cant turn them on around town, etc.

Now I know a little bit about HID's and I noticed all the HID setups I've seen have projector headlights so I assumed I needed those. And I remember reading somewhere that 6000k is the color intensity of choice when it comes to HID's. I agree and so I found an HID 6000k conversion kit and a projector headlight kit with H4 fittings (housing replaces the H6054 sealed beam that my xj has)

I noticed DashZRacing had all of what I needed in one place:

Projector Headlamp assemblies-Chrome
and:
6000k H4 HID Conversion kit

I really am not looking at spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on this and the two links above combined will get me a nice HID kit for under $200... or so I think. Any feedback?

my bro did the H4 conversion on his XJ. I dont think he did HID, but a bright buld and he absolutely loves it. I've yet to touch my XJ headlights, but I had 4300K HID's in my ZJ and 6000K in my WJ. In all honesty I liked the 4300K better. 6000K is slightly blue, but you actually loose lumens. 4300K is the truest white and produces the most lumens, but you dont have the "cool" factor of blue headlights. Also you will loose your high beams if you go with most HID conversion kits. You wont find (well I have yet to find) a duel beam HID kit that isn't a fortune. I'd go with the 4300K but thats my 2 cents.

Hmm, I doubt I'll need the harness because I think I'm just going to be using the factory harness to trigger a relay for the ballasts, thats usually how they're wired up

Well, my bud has a set of 6000k's I'm installing for him once his projector headlights come in. Its on a WK so I planned on holding off until I saw his in action anyways. I loved the ones on the lexus, it was an RX330, and it had the self leveling/turning HIDs. I want that color haha. Also, as far as lumens, well, anything beats the crappola sylvania budget sealed beams that are in there

Oh and I'm aware that ill be losing my highbeams, thats okay with me. If I need a more broad range of light in front of me I always have my roof lights. Maybe I'll get a set of KC slims and mount them on the bumper and aim them as high-beams, then wire them up to the high beam circuit. That oughta work...

Also, can somebody else second the autopal lights for use with HID's? From the little I've learned, I do know that the wrong housing for the HID can cause awful glare and blind oncoming drivers. I'm ready to buy these tonight, but I just want somebody to confirm I'll be able to put an HID kit in this and not have problems

Hahaha, thanks...

The Autopals and a 5-6000k HID kit is where it stands. Final decision on color temperature will be based on whether I like my friend's WK setup or not... I will know all of this by thursday night. Meanwhile, the autopal order will probably go through tonight.

Oh yeah!! I remember you from the ZJ section!! I say don't worry about the glare, you can always aim down. Those housings look pretty good though! Anything is better than having hid's in the zj housings lol. And you are right, anything is better than the stock lights lol

Get a bi-xenon kit and you will still have your hi beam. You can get them for under $100. Other than that I say go for it. I am saving up to get them on mine.

Where in the world can I find a bi-xenon kit under $100? All of the single beam ones I've found are $100+

edit: ahh I stand corrected, and on amazon too?!?! And they're Xentec, the same brand you get at BajaHID. Once I make sure 6000k is what I want.... sold

If you do a search on HID lights, there is a thread on one individual who used a Cibie reflector housing and an HID kit. After aiming the lights, and doing some testing, he found that while there is glare (you can't not have it without a projector housing), it wasn't enough to distract or disturb other drivers.

Not everyone is willing to fork out $300-400 (or more) for their headlights.

If youre not willing to do it right, dont do it at all. I dont appreciate being blinded by those *******s in their Civic with their plug and play stupidity... so if you wanna fall into that category... go right ahead.
