Can a 2 wheel drive AW4 be converted to 4x4?
I got a line on a cheap cherokee but its 2 wheel drive. I need a 4x4. I am pulling the motor for my wrangler but would like to use the trans as well. I am aware of the wiring issues for the new trans. But need to know if all I have to do is remove the tail housing and bolt a transfer case on it?

Simply put: No. Its much easier to purchase a 4x4 XJ than to convert one. To convert one you need a complete donor vehicle, the electronics, axles and assorded hardware. Unless you want a project.

I am not wanting to convert a xj to 4x4. I just want to know if the 2x4 trans can be converted to use a transfer case? Someone told me the main shaft might be too long. I just want to verify this before I go get the cherokee. I got a wrangler that needs a engine and trans and I was wanting to go ahead and get the 4 speed while I was messing with it.
