Wow CJ7-Tim, thanks for the positive contribution and knowledge. Seems to me that what you're saying is that as long as my stock rear leaf springs are in good condition an AAL will work just fine and last (depending on the brand and quality).

I put new leaf packs on mine, with the main leaf from the old pack added in. The new pack was the HD pack from quadratec. I am now sitting at 3" over stock, and it's a little stiff but not too bad.

So what can I swap in for my packs? I USUALLY have scads of tools in the back. My springs pretty much popped invert today when I put my table saw in. Will full S-10 packs fit on an XJ? I'm not really looking for lift (yet), just something beefier to hold up to towing, tools, etc. Read that as I am not touching the front.

Well, today I purchased RE 3.5" Super Flex and it arrives tuesday! So excited!!! Do the install myself, the shop wanted $650 to do it - I say horse sh*t. Gotta neighbor who builds cars from the the ground up and he said he'd lend me his shop, helping hand, and knowledge - good ol neighbors!

I'll update tuesday with some pictures and all that good stuff so I can show off my pride and joy!

I ran this lift on two different week long trips to Moab, a week in central Colorado, and regularly hauled 300+ lbs of cargo. It did well on the trails and never sagged in the least in the 3 + years this set up was on my Cherokee. It was maybe 10-15% firmer than stock, but it was smooth on the roads. My current RE 3.5 Replacement Leaf Spring packs are smoother and flex better than the AAL but they also cost more than the $100 I spent buying and installing the RE 2.5" AAL.
I know this is an old thread, but Tim (as usual) you seem to be on the ball. I'm getting ready to install my AAL 3 inch lift. The AAL is a full length, and I took an extra XJ main, cut the eyes off and beveled the edges. Do you see any major problems with this setup. I expect some sag, so I want to build it alittle higher so that when everything settles, it will be level.

I have built several AAL and bastard packs for my Cherokees and for members of my local Jeep 4x4 club. They have been an inexpensive and durable method to revive saggy stock leaf springs or to lift anywhere from 1.5" to 4.5" taller than stock.
