A/c fan wont spin 1987
My first post/thread w00t!
![]() Any way... I have a 1987 (yes my jeep is older then me) Jeep Cherokee Chief w/ 4.0L engine, manual trans. A while back the thermostat stopped working and it hurled it's guts in my driveway. Along with that, the a/c fan fried (haven't found reason yet). Smoke came from the fan and found 2 points in the wire were the insulation had melted (copper touching copper). I replaced the fan with a brand new one off a 1997 jeep Cherokee (direct bolt in just needed a little wiring). I checked the wire for current, when it should have turned on there was maybe 1 volt then kick off when the a/c did. I already checked the fuses ![]() Any comments/questions are greatly appreciated.

The old fan after frying was 'locked' in place. Hope that was the reason it fried.
I have been running it without a thermostat since the last one died. |

I believe there is a fuseable link on one of the power wires. Sounds like the short killed that.

Thank you
balloo93!Worked like a charm! As a side note, the diagram on that website didn't really show the fuse that has cost me all this time very well. It is located under the electrical cover in the engine compartment. It is tangled with a bunch of other inline fuses, as it said on the site, it is the red and a green wire connected together by a fuse. ![]() |
