Buy it or build it?
My questions is should I spend $5000-7000 for a newer XJ or buy one with a little more miles and less money, and build it?

if your asking if you should buy somebody else Xj that is already lifted .i would say no.i don't like buying trucks that have already been lifted because they are lifted for a reason most time.this reason is becasue the person uses it and usually uses it hard.you have no clue as to how hard it was driven and beaten.i always start with a stocker and work from there.you stand a better chance of the vehicle never being off road or beaten as much.

Mine has about 164000 miles, it runs like new. In my opinion its not how many miles are on it, its how the miles were put on it. Make sure you drive it and check it out well before you buy.

Depends on the deal.
I've personally had a chance and driven it and drove 900 miles to see a Jeep that was $11k that in stock form is worht $8k, but it had $30k worht of mods done to it, but I passed on it since it would be a DD...still regret that choice. Anyways building it is more fun, but not cost affective at all.

if you build it, he will come...
depends on a few things...do you really feel like lifting it yourself and going through the install process? you'll learn tons about your jeep and have that satisfaction of doing it yourself, but it can also be a lot of work. some people just pay to have it done for them. if you're one of those, it might be worth your while to atleast look at xj's that have already been modified, just make sure you get it checked out that it hasn't been abused and has no major issues because you don't want to be buying someone elses problem. hope that helps at all, goodluck! |
