Bushwacker fender flares
I was considering putting bushwackers on my jeep. I was wondering do the bushwackers sit higher than the stock fenders. Is that how they add clearance? And was also wondering this because i have a scratch a tiny bit above where the top of the stock fender sits, and was wondering if it will be covered by the new fender. Does anyone know what im talking about?

You have to cut some of the metal in all the wheel openings and then the outer part of the flare attaches to the body just below the character line - so it's pretty high.

Is that a neccessity that every wheel well has to be cut? I have a 4.5 inch lift and im happy with 32's for now. I just tore down all the old ones today. Does the rear door open fine on them. Looks like the flares go way over where the door goes. How do they attach do you need to re drill?

This a pretty good write up on installing Bushwacker on a Cherokee
As for your question on the rear door. It's a two piece flare on the rear. One half on the body the other on the door.

Here's a picture from a couple of years ago just after I fitted my B/W's. This is with a 4.5" lift and 33's.
![]() The front ones are easy to install but the rear are a bit of a pain as you need to cut past the spot welds that hold the fender and wheel well together. The solution is to re-weld or pop riviting to put everything back together. Alternatively, I have heard of some people not doing this and just folding the fender lip back into the wheel well, but I'm not to sure how successful this solution is.

Does cutting have to be done by the door on the rears?

Yes, by the door you have to cut the fender well or at least bend it over. This is on the wheel well and not on the door itself. The door only has to be drilled for the screw holes. I really like my bushwhackers and have them on my YJ too.

I can take pictures of my flares installed, but not really of the metal work cause it is all covered by the flares. If you want any particular pictures just let me know and I will be happy to snap them for you.
