Burning up fuses!?!?!?!?
Hey guys,
Gotta 95 XJ and I have been recently going through fuses on the panel under the dash and the one under th hood. The fuses that keep blowin' are the fuse that controls the pwr windows, pwr door locks, radio and the interior lights. All of those amenities are consolidated on one fuse under the dash on the drivers side. As for the panel under the hood on the passenger side of my rig, it is the mini-fuse that controls the interior lights, radio and anything that is powered when you just have the ignition on. Any suggestions??? ![]() ![]()

A fuse blows because of an abnormal amount of amperage going thru the fused circut, usually because of a short.
If your fuse keeps blowing, that means you still have a short. Find the problem, fix it, THEN replace the fuse. Dont just keep slapping fuses in there. Unless you want to make your XJ into a BBQ.

I could be many things such as a loose connection or something is failing. I would first look at the door and window systems. It could be that a door lock accuator or a power window motor switch is sticking causing either the accuator or the motor to heat up and blow the fuses. Try replacing only the under hood fuse first. If it does not blow then more then likely the problem can be traced from the output of the under dash fuse. Try all the swithes for the windows and doors as well as the headlamp swith and dimmer. You could also check for continuity to ground from the output of the dash fuse. CAUTION: Continuity is done with no power so FIRST use a test light to determine which side of the fuse is the input. That will read 12V, and the light will light up. The other side should read 0 volts with the fuse removed. Then you can perform the contiuity check to ground on the ouput side. Good Luck KC
