Good points. I did not deal with a JY axle but, I understand what you are saying. As far as the lines; My 8.8 had roughly 20,000 on it and looked brand new.($100, open and 4.10's)
I was lifting it at the same time and needed a longer brake hose, so that's the route I went. It was cheap and easy for me at the time.Hale

![]() I had to pay 350€ (~450$) for my '93, unknown mileage. Brakes apart, it was in good condition though. But that's a good excuse for upgrading to disc brakes - complete OEM Ford Performance rear disc set for 350€, not bad IMO (especially knowing the usual high prices for OEM US- car parts here).

The bent thing looks more like a dust shield then a backing plate.
Somone correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm not familiar with an 8.8.

It's kind of both - disc brake is the operating brake, and the small diameter drum brake is the handbrake. So it has a backing plate/ dust shield thingy just like most older rear disc brake systems.

There should be four bolts or studs behind the plate, and IIRC nuts on the "inside" of the drum/ rotor assembly. It doesn't look like yours is too badly damaged so you could try bending it straight and see what happens. The only thing you'll loose is some time if it doesn't work.
But since you talked about getting new rotors, new backing plates and new calipers, you might wanna check this out: http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=1790 It's Ford Racing OEM brake kit, and costs 379$, has all the parts you need and is a direct bolt on. Buying all the parts separately from an auto parts store could end up being more expensive, I ordered the same kit for me. It's actually funny how I got it at such a low price; 350€ (which is ~450$). Considering you have to add shipping costs, 4,7% import tax + 22% VAT and dealer profit, I literally got the kit very cheap.

thats not a bad idea, im gonna try and take it off and bend it back into shape, if i bend it back out, is it better to just buy brakes and calipers seperate (if i dont need the backing plate)

To pull shafts out, it's just like any c-clip axle; pop the cover -> open the cross pin retaining bolt (I used 8mm wrench, could be 5/16" too.. dunno if that bolt is metric or SAE but both work) -> slide out the retaining pin -> push shaft toward pumpkin -> remove c- clip with needle-nose pliers -> remove shaft -> do the same to the other shaft.
You do not need to open the carrier bearing retainer bolts to remove the shafts. You only need to open them if you want to get the carrier out.
