Broken emergency brake lever

So, I'm driving when my friend thinks its funny to rip the ebrake lever up. When he does the button, spring, and rod go flying out. Now when i pull it up it just goes down right away. Is it possible to put it back together or will i have to buy a new button assembly? Also i got him back by doing a long burnout in his stang

Give it a shot, but something might have snapped on the inside.

And uh... I hate to sound like a jerk, but maybe you guys could respect each other's property a little more, and be more responsible?

I have the same problem with my 94 xj, I had it at the dealer getting my brakes done (they cheapest in town) and asked them to look at it. Turns out I needed a new rachet assembly at $400!! but they also said a common problem is some screws come loose but that wasn't the case in my jeep. Needless to say the ebrake is still broken but does work just won't lock.

very common problem in cherokee, same thing happened to me. I replaced the whole assembly with a junkyard one, and havent had a problem in about 2 years. I have heard of some ppl. getting good epoxy and glueing the button back in but for $20 i figured i might as well do it right the first time. good luck.

A club for what.. Having idiot friends breaking stuff in our jeeps, or broken e-brakes? lol What sucks is that now i have to take out the center console again as i just painted it black a couple weeks ago to get to the brake lever. Oh well it gives me a chance to scope out how hard its going to be to herculine it.

a club for broken e-brakes
theres a thread on it at least once a month.

i was sucessful in epoxying it back together, but i rarely use it because theres so much crap covering it on a normal basis.

My button went shooting into the dash a few weeks ago. I keep wheel chocks in the back of the Jeep now.
