Braking problem!! Please Help!!

My '91 XJ Laredo is having major braking issues. I bought it, took it off road once and ever since the braking is, well lack for a better word, almost non-existant. What happens is, when i apply braking pressure (not a whole lot mind you), it pulls hard to the right, like i am attempting to turn, as i keep steady pressure on it, it continues to pull right. Then the brakes will release (while foot is still on the brake pedal) and it will roll like 5-10 feet then wham, brakes clamp down and i stop. I had all brakes redone (was doing it before i had them worked on) all new pads, calipers, etc. and it still does it. My father says it could be the ABS, but i haven't looked in that area as of yet. When i went off road it wasn't like i was pretending i was in a baja race or anything, just good 'ol arizona off-road fun. Could someone please help!!

When you changed the calipers did you bleed your brakes? You might wanna bleed the entire system again, just to make sure you got all the air and old fluid out.

yes, the air was bled from them twice to make sure. the only way i can brake while driving is to pull the parking brake like 3 clicks up, then it brakes normal.

Your rear brake shoes need to be adjusted for proper clearance from the rear drums. This is evident because, by using the parking brake, you are "presetting" the shoes closer to the drums, thereby allowing the drums to function correctly.

Adjust your rear drums manually, and see if your braking improves. I am betting it will.
