Brakes dragging
Alright guys, I need your help on a problem I just started having.
Ive got a 98 XJ, and just yesterday as I was driving around I noticed some wierd driving characteristics. I did some testing in a parking lot, and discovered first that it pulled hard right under braking, and that in neutral the jeep seems to come to a stop as if Im applying the brake lightly. I assume that one or more of my brakes is dragging. I cant tell though, because I smelled little bit of burning brake from the rear, which doesnt make much sense. And, both front brakes seemed to be equally hot when I pulled into the parking lot. Also, I have to push a little harder on the brake pedal to get the car to stop. I parked it for a while and got a haircut, and when I came back and drove away the problem was gone. It came back again as I was driving on the freeway later that night. Any thoughts?

It sounds like a bad wheel cylinder. You should take the drums off and visually inspect for fluid, it should be clean and dry, while youre at it go ahead and inspect the shoes for cracks and wear.
If you do not see the signs of a bad wheel cylinder then it could also be a bad caliper on the front in which the piston is not releasing. I cant see where it would pull (as in the steering) really hard if it was a wheel cylinder but that is the first thing I would check.
