Brake Pedal triggers interior lights and running lights HELP!!

Okay heres the deal. Saturday nite I pull into my driveway and as Im rolling forward with the clutch in I shut my Jeep off and shut off the headlights. As I hit the brakes the dash lights and the running lights turn on and off with the brake pedal. I could tell the parking lights were on cuz I could see them in the snowbank at the end of my driveway. This has never happened before and I have no idea what triggered it. Could be a short somewhere but why do they do that with the brake pedal. WIERD!? Any one with any type of idea please help me.

BTW I have wired driving lights and my stereo and all my Fire lights but I never tapped into any stock wiring. I ran all my own for those accessories.

I started out with nothing and still have most of it left.

Im getting tired of thinking...guess I'll do some wishful drinking.

sounds like a short between the brake light power and the running light power....mabey a pinched harness, something else...wherever it is its shorting between those 2 wires

Check the brake lamp bulbs filaments. One filament is for park the other is for brake. Make sure they are not touching each other. Also check the contacts on the bottom of the bulbs for damage. Check the sockets also. Good luck and let us know the fix.

Been there, done that. DAT is right:

Pull both rear lamp housings off tailgate area (3/8 socket, methinks)

Pull ALL plugs out and iNSPECT. Replace any blown ones in pairs (both L and R side)

You have a shorted out brake lamp. it feeds back to the brake switch after you have been driving with the lights on at night, etc. after a while, pressing brake pedal when lights are turned off and it won't happended.

Do a search of my name BrunoS and brake lights and you'll find the write up.

Thanx guys...I figured that same thing out this weekend. The driverside and passenger side bulbs were both touching the other filament. Thanx for your help tho. It took me 3 hours to figure that out. thanx.

I'd like to reopen this thread please

I have the same issue on a 2000 XJ- I removed both rear bulbs, and with the pedal applied, the front running lights still come on. any ideas?
