Blowing fuses

My 97 has developed the curious problem of popping the "Transmission control module, powertrain control module, automatic shutdown relay, fuel pump relay" 20a fuse on the passenger kick panel.

It only does this when I shift down to 1-2. Any ideas?

There is most likely a short in the transmission range sensor or in the wiring between it and the transmission module. Looking at the wiring diagram, the fuse that is blowing is common to all those things. Since it only blows in 1-2, the problem lies there. you can try removing the connector from the transmission module and then try moving the shifter with the key on. See if the fuse blows. That will narrow down whether it is the module causing the problem or a short in the wiring.

The trans module is inside behind the center console. Have you added any accessories that might have pinched a wire? BTW, the 1-2 wire is the VIO-WHT wire on the shifter and module.

I ahve not done any accesories at all that would have pinched a wire.

It does not go immediately after shifting into 1-2 I usually get halfway up the obstacle and it goes.
