Well it depends, their may not be a replacement manufactured that doesn't require new rims, but they do that on purpose, so you don't have to buy new rims. But, if you want a real beefy brake upgrade, you'll probably want 16s, say if your running WJ brakes

the reality of it is you cant get bigger breaks for an xj/tj/yj/zj front axle unless you get a new axle or do th wj conversion.

The best bang for your buck in a 90 would be converting to rear disk's along with swapping the 95 mc/booster

I've done one on one jeep and one on the other jeep, and both make big differences alone, i like the rear disc first because they actually do something. And keep the tires from locking up.

Oh and some wheels wont fit some will, fullsize trucks use much larger brakes and 15 in wheels still

i dont intend to convert to WJ calipers, but i have put on 96 zj rear discs and im in the process of getting 96 jz master cylinder, double d booster and proportioning valve to swap out the remaining bo 4 wheel disc components. and while she stops excellent now... i want to do this so i can maintain it with bigger tires down the road. thanks for your help.. it sounds like if i cant afford new rims i can reuse my old ones
