Big Camshaft?

so my jeep has 150k and it is getting pretty tired and i am getting amped to do a rebuild. i am from a muscle car family and that means we do a big cam whenever we get the chance. i was wondering whats the biggest cam i can do in my 4.0l without messing with the EFI?

150K is nothing for the 4.0L, i'm about to break 210K and I get plenty of power still. Once in a while ill roast the tires or bounce it off the rev limiter from stop lights just for fun.

There isnt much in the way of aftermarket parts like there is for 5.0 or 350. Most dont bother with cam swaps unless you stroke it out to 4.5L+.

The EFI on any jeep before OBDII is super easy to make work with any setup on the 4.0L

I had been looking into this myself when I was just going to do a ported and polished intake, head, header, and cam. Found out that the cam I had been looking at if I would stroke it, would work just fine with just a free flowing top end.

To give you an idea of the power increase from a cam, the Mopar Stage 2 cam would give around a 10 hp gain according to the Mopar Jeep Engines book I have.

I have the Comp Cams 68-231-4, it creates a lot of power. Some people have had troubles with thier lobes going flat due to the lack of ZDDP in motor oil. For the first 4 oil changes I added redline ZDDP additive and have had zero troubles. ZDDP also contains zinc which coats the cat and hinders it's function, FYI.

That motor ^^ is cool! but only because it sounds like a V8. A Carb setup is not the best for offroading.

you mean the 68-232-4? 68-231-4 is not for fuel injected engines

Too bad guys have been using it on fuel injected engines for quite some time now. What's even better, is that it lists the 4.0L in the applications, the 4.0 was never carbureted.

Any confirmation of this actually occurring on a Jeep 4.0?
