I put 147000 on my 2000 XJ,would have tried fpr another 100k if it didnt try to mate with an equinox a couple weeks ago. I had no major mechanical problems. The later 01 had 4 disc brakes as option and the other option I would look for is selectrac t case.

1996, because it is the only year that they didn't make Wranglers!

a 2001 cherokee that drives 15,000 miles per year will then have 300,000 miles on it. a 1996 cherokee will have 375,000 miles on it. how much time and money will people put into cars with that many miles...? nevermind the rust eating away at all of them...

but i guess its that way for any collectable vehicle. anyhow, sorry for the digression.
Take a wander over to the CJ forums or Willy's forums and see how that's working out for ya...

Hate to say it Man but the Jeep Spirit will never die, threw Quadratec alone for a 1955 CJ5 and up you can buy new Frames, Tubs, Breaks, Suspensions, and Hard/Soft OEM Factory spec Tops plus many others for a 65+ old vehicle. No matter how much plastic and computers the Jeep name will have to deal with We Will Never Surrender To Being Just A 4X4
